Getting Old

I just saw a nice ad for taking care of your parents.  The ad was convincing and it gave me a warm feeling inside.  In certain cultures people take their parents in and wait on them hand and foot like children.  I'm from a culture the pushes that type of mentality but I do not necessarily buy into it.

Do not get me wrong, I do have a sense of loyalty to my parents for raising me and taking care of me for so many years.  I have seen families, marriages and relationships fall because of the stress of taking care of a parent..  No parent wants to be a burden to their children and I do not want my kids to take care of me nor do I expect them to want to.  So, I have a plan.  And let's hope it's a good plan and it all pans out.

I feel at this day and age we have an advantage our parents did not have or did not use.  And that's the knowledge and practice of health and fitness.  Now for me I push being active, getting enough rest and eating healthy (all with moderation).

My parents both worked long hours, smoked and continually ate unhealthy.  They have had their health issues that may have been prevented with a healthier and active lifestyle.  Believe me I know nothing is 100% but I'll play the odds on living an active and healthy lifestyle to mean a more independent life as an elderly man.  It beats the alternative of living a dependent life with others taking care of me.

So knowing my genetic misfortunes, here is my plan:

1.  Eat healthy and as natural as possible
2.  Engage in work life balance with family and friends
3.  Stay ACTIVE!
4.  Limit my unhealthy indulges (sweets, alcohol, unhealthy food etc...)

Some activities I suggest:

Hiking
Biking
Long walks
Jogging
Recreational sports
Strength Training
Plenty of Sex
Maintaining a good social life

Get Active,

Dave
